The Changing Moon: A Supermoon and an Eclipse

Pictures of last night’s supermoon + lunar eclipse seem the perfect way to represent the changing faces of Earth’s satellite.

A supermoon, or perigee moon, occurs when the moon is closest to Earth along its path of orbit.  This makes it appear unusually full and bright in the night sky.  Here it is, peeking out from behind the trees:

A few hours later, the lunar eclipse was approaching totality (that point of the eclipse where the moon is fully covered by the Earth’s shadow), and most of its face had turned the reddish color that gave this eclipse the name of “blood moon:”

A Grid to Hold Beads

I found this adorable grid at the dollar store a few weeks back and thought it’d be a great way to store loose beads in my jewelry stash.  (Its intended function was as an ice cube tray… but don’t you think this is so much prettier?)

Those empty squares are starting to annoy me, though… guess a trip to the bead store is in my future!  😀

Monochromatic Marvels

Monochromatic, adj.

mono·chro·mat·ic \ˌmä-nə-krō-ˈma-tik\

: having or made up of one color or shades of one color

(From merriam-webster.com)

Here are some of my favorite monochromatic shots I’ve taken recently.  Enjoy!

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Sense of Seeing

I’m always on the lookout for ways to use things that catch my eye – colors, textures, patterns – in my jewelry.  Lately I’ve been noticing a lot of zigzag patterns around me.  I think this pattern is perfectly lovely – it can take on a whole range of personalities depending on what colors and line thicknesses you choose, but somehow it never fails to cheer me up!

My latest bracelet-and-earrings set, now up on Etsy, is inspired by zigzags!  (Of course, the lovely blue-green color of those beads didn’t hurt either…)  Aren’t they simply stunning?

From Every Angle: Showcasing my Creations

Whenever I list a new piece of jewelry in the Etsy shop, I try to photograph the item from as many angles as possible – I want customers to not only know exactly what they’re buying, but also really get excited about their purchase!  Etsy allows a maximum of 5 photos per listing, and sometimes it’s a challenge to pick which shots will be the lucky five.  So I’m thrilled to get to share some of the “extras” with you.  These are some of my favorites from the most recent listings in the shop, a set of earrings and a matching memory wire bracelet.

Here are some of the images that ultimately made the cut:

And here are some of those that didn’t:

I’ve Been Nominated: The Versatile Blogger Award!

VersatileAward

Thank you ever so much to the fabulous Berryduchess for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award!  Her blog is lovely, and her posts are always such fun to read.  Do take a look at her blog if you’ve not seen it already!

Similar to the Liebster Award, this award is passed on to blogs that deserve a chance to be in the spotlight.  Each new recipient is asked to tell their audience a few facts about themselves.  Thus, these awards help to build a community in the blogosphere.

Here are the rules of the award:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  2. List the rules and display the award.
  3. Share 7 facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their blogs to let them know you nominated them.

Okay, here goes!  Facts about me:

  1. I never paint my fingernails and toenails the same color.  Along the same lines, my nail polish collection is ever-growing.
  2. We have both a dog and a cat.  Surprisingly enough, they get along without squabbling!  Who knew?
  3. I hope to own a hedgepig as a pet someday.  (I would get one now, except I’m not sure that a hedgepig would get along with the cat as well as the dog does… 😉 )
  4. I have every playbill for every show I’ve been to since I was ten.
  5. Much to my dismay every time we studied genetics in elementary school, I – unlike most of the population, it seems – cannot curl my tongue.  😛
  6. My favorite candies are Skittles and Kit Kats (but not at the same time).  😀
  7. I have a hard time picking a favorite color, but I often say blue – over 50% of the clothes in my wardrobe are in shades of blue, after all!  (The same was true until recently of my bead stash, but lately I’ve been trying to fix that…)

And following in the footsteps of such illustrious bloggers as Liesel of Skill Up Skillet (if you haven’t seen her blog, do check it out, it is amazing!), I present you with an abbreviated list of nominees, since 15 seems such an awful lot:

Do take a look at some of these blogs if you get a chance, they deserve it!

Creepy-Crawly Caterpillar

Aren’t caterpillars just the oddest things?  Some days I marvel at their vivid coloration… other days I can’t help but find them a bit creepy.  This lil’ guy is a tomato hornworm caterpillar – I found him on one of the tomato plants (surprise!) earlier this week, and I couldn’t help snapping a few pictures before I relocated him to a corner of the yard far, far away 🙂
